Marlborough - a brief rugby history

Founded: 1888
Colours: Cardinal
Main Ground: Lansdowne Park, Blenheim

Marlborough amalgamated with Nelson Bays in 2005 to become the Tasman Rugby Union from 2006.

Marlborough won the South Island Division 2 Championship two years in a row in 1978 & 1979. The also won the 3rd Division Grand Final Championship in 1997.

Marlborough won the Ranfurly Shield from Canterbury in 1973. They held it for six defences, finally losing it to Sth Canterbury in 1974.

The Marlborough team was often called the "Red Devils".

The most appearances is by Ray Sutherland (177) from 1958 - 1974
The most points scored is by Craig Forsyth (694) from 1990 - 1997
The most tries scored is by Brian Ford (81 from 1972 - 1983.
