Since 1976 (the start of the NPC) South Canterbury has wone the 2nd Division (Sth Island) competition three times (1976, 1977, 1981), the 3rd Division three times (1986, 1991, 2001) and the Lochore Cup in 2013. They played in the 1st Division for three years from 1978 to 1980.
The most appearances is by Steven Todd (152) from 1986 - 2001.

In 2016 South Canterbury finished 2nd in the Heartland round robin series, losing in a semi final of the Meads Cup.
